PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. – The Hampton University women’s golf team finished fifth out of six teams at the 22nd annual PGA Minority Collegiate Golf Championship at the PGA Golf Club over the weekend.
The Lady Pirates finished the three-day event with a 205-over-par 1,069, while Bethune-Cookman won the tournament at 54-over-par. Texas-Pan American finished a distant second with a 70-over-par 934.
Lauren Davis (Oviedo, Fla.) was the highest-finishing Hampton player, coming in 18th with a 42-over-par 258. Britney Alford ((Westerville, Ohio) finished 19th at 48-over-par.
Jessi Mitchell’s 55-over-par 271 was good enough for 22nd, while Ariel Thomas finished 24th (60-over) and Alyson Lawson finished 26th (71-over).
Bethune-Cookman’s Becky Dowell won the top individual honor, finishing with a three day score of 225, good enough for 9-over-par. Mariale Carney of Texas-Pan American finished second at 10-over-par.
Bethune-Cookman and Texas-Pan American split the top nine individual places, with Bethune-Cookman taking five of them.
